The Islamic studies curriculum focuses on the learning of key Muslim knowledge, values, skills and attitudes. The curriculum taught at the Durham Islamic STEM Academy focus on essential knowledge, Islamic beliefs, Fiqh (rituals and rulings), Islamic history, contemporary issues, lifestyle, and community and spiritual and personal development. Our teachings cover many important aspects of Islam, such as:

• Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence; the rules and practices we follow in Islam)
• Aqīdah (learning and understanding Islamic beliefs)
• Sīrah (The biography of the Prophet Muḥammad, peace be upon him, and its relevance)
• Islamic history, spanning the lives of all the previous Prophets as well as major events of importance.
• Ādāb (Islamic manners and etiquette essential to a moral and rewarding life)

These topics are not only taught to cover classical knowledge but their contemporary applications and implications are explored and explained in detail. This makes the study of Islamic studies at Durham Islamic STEM Academy a subject that is very relevant to our students in their everyday lives. 

Unique to Durham Islam STEM Academy is the integration of Islamic studies with STEM and nature-based learning to make our educational program more holistic. Students explore the interconnectedness of science and faith, examining the Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions that speak to environmental conservation and the pursuit of knowledge. Ethical considerations are woven into discussions about technological advancements and their impact on society, guided by Islamic principles of justice and compassion.
